WHEN OUR PURSEFORUM MEMBERS TAKE TO A NEW BAG DESIGN THIS ENTHUSIASTICALLY, IT ALMOST ALWAYS MEANS BIG THINGS
There's no better motivator in luxury fashion than scarcity. It's what turns a well-liked design into an It Bag: consumers who are used to being affluent enough to have all their wants and needs met understandably get a bit of an acquisitive thrill from having something rare. (That includes yours truly, who once spent months trying to scheme her way into a Chloé Paddington.) So when a new bag from a designer that's usually pretty easy to buy suddenly becomes hard to find--and when our PurseForum members start posting about the ones they've nabbed as soon as it hits stores--we take notice.
The Chloé Nile Bag first piqued my interest when I had a tough time tracking one down to link to in my recent list of spring 2017's notable bag debuts. I thought that perhaps I was just looking a bit too early in the season--maybe they'd come in stock in a week or two, even though several of the Nile's listings at MATCHESFASHION.COM were labeled "sold out" to indicate the bags had come and gone. Still, I waited.
In the intervening month and a half, not a whole lot has changed. Neiman Marcus only has one Nile in stock, and its listing indicates there is only one bag left, total; another color is backordered until September. At Saks, a couple versions are available for a pre-fall preorder, and several of the colors once available in those pre-orders have sold out. Barneys' listings are also all pre-orders. Of the two colors Net-a-Porter stocked, one was sold out when I checked before starting this post, and the other became sold out literally while I was typing the paragraph you just read. By my measure, that constitutes the most impressive premier designer bag debut in recent memory. Especially with a brand as widely stocked as Chloé, this just doesn't happen very much.
Of course, no bag gets this popular just by riding its own scarcity--there has to be something special about a design to inspire this kind of reaction. Ideally, a potential It Bag combines both novelty and functionality: the design has to be something a buyer can carry frequently, but it requires a detail or two that make it distinctive and easily recognizable. For the Chloé Paddington, it was the oversized padlock; for the Céline Luggage Tote, the curvy front piping and flared gussets. For the Nile, the ring hardware that functions as both decorative detail and functional top handle, depending on how you carry the bag, is it. We may very well have something special on our hands here--that is, if we could get our hands on it at all.
Below, check out the few in-stock and pre-order Niles we were able to find right now.

Chloe has picked up a lot of momentum in the bag world as of late. The Chloe Drew bag was possibly the “it” bag of the year of 2015, and we’re only expecting more greatness from here.
Explore our latest Chloe Crush: The Chloe Faye Bag in the full reference guide below…
@beigerenegade
History and Specs
The Chloe Faye bag first popped on the scene in the Spring/Summer 2015 collection. Since then, we’ve been seeing a lot more of the bag on celebs, bloggers, and cult followers. The most notable characteristic about the Faye bag is its sleekness. From afar, the bag looks almost completely flat with razor thin edges. PurseBop can’t help but wonder how well the bag maintains its shape after being packed (or overpacked).
The flap bag features a magnetic snap closure, but the chain and ring on the front aesthetically pull the whole bag together. The detachable leather strap allows for great versatility, and the bag can be carried as a shoulder bag, crossbody bag, or a clutch.
The Faye bag comes in two sizes: small and medium. The small has a more rectangular shape, and the medium is slightly more angular and trapezoidal. Each size features interior compartments with a zip pocket in the medium version. The most popular style for the Faye is the suede/calfskin combination. However, the Faye Bag comes in many different colors and textures such as python, patent, and a material that resembles crocodile. In suede and leather, the medium Faye retails for $1950 and the small Faye retails for $1,390 via Barneys.

As the frost begins to take over outside and we see the whole spring and summer craze from the September and October Fashion Week shows around the world begin to die down, we cannot help but keep looking for the next in line. Some designers are still revealing their warm weather pieces, but it is the pre-fall 2016 that has begun to capture our attentions with ease, especially since we know that these items will be around for at least a 5-month period, teasing us into wearing some of the loveliest designs the fashion houses can offer. This, of course, means that sister collections also reveal what they’ve got, including bringing to us the presentation of the See by Chloepre-fall 2016 collection with its turn to grunge in terms of styling. It certainly seems to be a common theme for the spring and summer as well, a trend that was seen with many of the designer line-ups, particularly those like Alexander Wang, who have a certain love for the darker and the more underworld depictions of fashionable attire.
The pleasant thing about See by Chloe’s collection here though is the fact that it does not take inspiration from the dark, Cobain stripe, but instead brings in hints of feral glee from Bjork when she was famous in the ‘90s timeline. It is sexed up and moody, with fringed haircuts and long trench coats that fall to the floor. We see knit top velvet boots on the stage, comfy heeled and shiny toed, alongside suede mules and overalls with a skirt bottom, a slit slashes askew from the center. We notice the focus on denim is strong, darker washes with high cuffs worn with brown suede lace up boots that have heeled platform height, the whole collection taking on a more shapeless and slouchy appeal.
The most fun we can have with these looks is with the side slits and open belly ensembles, seeing awesome textured trousers in white with slight flares at the bottoms to really frilly dresses that keep bringing coral colored bells to mind. We have to say though that the biggest trend we notice here is the whole corded knit socks at different heights, always peeking over whatever shoe or boot is worn with the outfits.
There are cape jackets and textured handbags, athletically stylish leisure clothing with ruffle neck vintage tops. Mules come with open toes or closed and some outfits have a distinctly Western effect to them, complete with matching beige and brown blouse and layered skirt. Then again, our favourite just has to be the youthful button down denim dress in black, worn with a pretty high collared textured shirt underneath and maroon boots paired with red knee high socks down below.
We see cashmere and we see wool, we see long sleeves and pretty boots. Honestly, we kind of want these looks for now as we have the sun shine out but the snow covering the ground, particularly as we try to navigate strutting like a penguin instead of a peacock over ice, hoping we still look stylish enough. We don’t know about you, but the whole vintage 1970s thing happening here is quite desired in 2016 as well. We have no intention of waiting till the coming year before we enjoy some of these incredibly trendy fall and winter looks. It may be called pre-fall, but that only works if we are talking about pre-fall in the Arctic or Siberia.

As we all know, the Chloe Drew has long established its status as an ‘it’-bag, one of the most coveted pieces from the said brand. And why not? It was just yesterday when the Drew debuted during the Fall Winter 2014 collection, causing such a huge stir with the news that the brand was to release a new round-shaped bag that would address our need for style and functionality…well, the cat’s out of the bag, and we’re loving this piece more than ever!
This time around, there are new tweaks to the classic design – it’s getting really crazy with the spectacle of colors! Of course, we won’t throw the classic gals under the bus for loving their monochromes and color-coordinated gimmick, but there are times when going all out with different shades pays-off. Still, the Drew comes with beautiful, gold hardware that shines just as beautifully as you do. Now that’s something!
What’s your favorite among these new colors? For now, we don’t have much deets about these bags and their prices and availability. Anyway, you gotta stay tuned for more updates about these bags (and other pieces) very soon!
